The iconic 1973 2.7 Carrera RS is perhaps most recognisable in its Lightweight guise with white paint contrasting bright red, blue or green wheels and decals. For those less outlandish and in search of a little more comfort Porsche also offered the Touring model, which kept the chrome 'Deco' sill and bumper trims of the 2.4S, kept the rear seats and often had the detailed black and silver Fuchs wheels. Nearly all Tourings shared the famous ducktail engine lid and box front bumper as the Lightweight but most importantly they also shared its wider rear arches and RS running gear.

This car is a cosmetic replica of an RS Touring. It's not as overtly sporting as the many Lightweight replicas you see, but is a wonderful visual balance of pretty, classic 911 and purposeful road racer, especially in period-correct Royal Purple, a rare and stunning shade.

The car is based on a genuine LHD 1973 911 E imported from the US and fully restored with a photographic record of the work completed.

The interior is to standard Touring spec and the wheels are polished and detailed 15x7" front and 15x8" rear Fuchs.

The car uses the correct type 915 5 speed gearbox mated to a 4R/5R cased engine. The engine is not matching to the car and precise details of the rebuild are unknown but it runs rather nicely and we have just set it up on the rolling road, which showed an honest 151bhp, pointing to it probably being based around a 2.4T. It has had the important hydraulic cam chain tensioners fitted.

This is clearly not a car for someone seeking originality, but is very handsome and appears rock solid and useable. The car could happily be kept as is with the RS style ducktail and front bumper, or by discussion could have the decals removed and be fitted with a standard flat engine lid and E/S front bumper to give the car a more standard 911 E look - albeit with the flared rear arches.

It is UK registered with one owner on the V5C.
