 1981 911SC Targa

The 911SC is the ideal entry level air cooled Porsche with genuine reliability and low running costs providing you buy a good specimen to begin with.

The engine capacity was 3.0 litres initially with 180BHP raising to 204BHP by the end of production and is generally regarded as the most reliable engine Porsche produced.

This UK supplied example is one of the more powerful 204BHP variants being produced in 1981 and is finished in its original colour scheme of Grand Prix white with black interior.

Originally supplied as a ‘Sport ‘ variant it features 16” Fuchs alloys, Bilstein dampers, and when new front and rear spoilers.  Fashion is a funny thing and we are seeing many 80s 911 sport models coming in with the rear spoiler removed and this example is one of those cars. The sport driving experience is still retained, but now features the classic lines of earlier 911s.

It has currently covered 124,000 through 7 keepers which is supported by a very comprehensive service record from new and previous MOTs.  In 1996 at 106,000 miles it received a top end rebuild by City Porsche Services including piston rings, head studs, hydraulic chain tensioner upgrade and a new flywheel with invoices to support the parts fitted.

Recent expenditure has included a refurbished Targa top, replacement of sills, door posts and front wings in 2009 by HP Motorsport, a gearbox rebuild and service in September 2012 again by HP Motorsport .

Because of their general reliability, most SCs we come across have a poor maintenance history and a body that usually requires significant expenditure now.

This example has been well maintained and received significant refurbishment to the engine, gearbox and body within the last 18,000 miles making it a safe and reliable purchase with minimal immediate on going expenditure.

Add to this the classic 80s colour scheme combined with open top Targa styling and suddenly cool never looked so good and all for under 20k!

Be quick they won’t stay here for long.
