A Brief History

In 1963, Ferruccio Lamborghini a successful and wealthy industrialist founded Automobili Lamborghini with a simple mission, to produce a sports car that would better Ferrari.

The prototype was designed and built in just 4 months before being officially launched at the Turin motor show in the same year. Shortly after, it was replaced by a production ready model called the 350 GT featuring a headline grabbing all new 3.5 litre V12 quad cam engine, 5 speed gearbox and race bred suspension making it a far more advanced design than the equivalent Ferrari of the time.

Subsequent headline grabbing mid-engine models such as Muira, Countach and Diablo would follow, all featuring increasingly powerful derivatives of this same V12 engine ensuring that Lamborghini kept ahead of Ferrari in the performance stakes.

However, as with many other niche manufacturers, it always struggled to make any money, and in 1998 a welcome financial and technical investment came along from the VAG group. New models followed, including the Gallardo, named as a homage to the 18th century Spanish bullfighting breeder Francisco Gallardo. Designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro, it still bristled with Italian style and flare, but now incorporated German engineering and much welcomed reliability.

It featured a 5.0 litre V10 engine initially producing 493 BHP with 4wd and the option of manual, or a new E gear transmission. With 0-60mph coming up in just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 196mph, performance was certainly impressive in 2003. Significant upgrades followed in the facelift 560 series including revised styling, improved ratios in the Graziano E gear transmission featuring a Corsa mode for faster changes and thrust mode launch control. The engine was a new 5.2 Litre V10 featuring Iniezione Diretta Stratificata (direct fuel injection system) for improved efficiency and of course in true Lamborghini tradition – more power! With 560 PS now on tap, 0- 60 and 0-124 mph times were significantly improved, whilst even the Spyder variant would now exceed 200MPH, and that was with the roof down!

Every Lamborghini is special, but exclusive variants are what epitomises the spirit of the marque and we are delighted to offer this last edition 2013 Gallardo 560-4 50th Anniversary Spyder for sale. Manufactured in 2013 and finished in Giallo Midas Yellow with Nero Perseus black interior with a minimal 16,600 miles on the clock. It’s current owner has spent £45,000 in maintenance and improvements since 2022 including a front end respray, full body paint protection film and a major service. It has benefited from a continuous service history which has predominantly been carried out at main dealer and only 3 owners from new. Additionally, the current owner has bought a new set of original spec alloy wheels that are currently fitted with new tyres and the original wheels have been refurbished that shall be supplied with the car.

Our thoughts

Values of older Lamborghinis have soared in recent years as a new generation of buyers are appreciating the exclusivity of the marque and its heritage. The Gallardo is a fine Lamborghini that could now be regarded as a modern classic and whilst current values don’t appear to reflect this, we can’t help thinking in a world of hybrid and electrification that is being forced upon us, with its naturally aspirated wailing V10 engine, the Gallardo will soon have its day.
