BACKGROUND
The 3.2 Carrera was launched in October 1983 for the ’84 model year and although similar in appearance to the outgoing SC, had numerous technical improvements to improve driveability, refinement, and performance.
Most notable was the new 3164cc engine that featured a digital motronic 2 electronic (DME) management system and a new Bosch LE Jetronic fuel injection to raise power from 204BHP to 231BHP. This not only gave a 10% improvement in fuel economy, but the top speed increased from 146mph to 152mph too.
Electric seats replaced the manual items in the SC, the heating system was improved, and the interior featured more luxurious materials.
In October 1986, a significant change was made with the introduction of the G50 gearbox which further improved refinement and ease of driving. It is these models that are the more desirable cars today.
THIS EXAMPLE
We are pleased to offer this 1989 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupe for sale finished in the combination of Guards Red with full pinstripe cloth interior, that was supplied by Malaya Garage on 11.02.1989 and has covered just over 61,000 miles since new.
Being an 89 model, it not only has the desirable G50 gearbox, but was supplied with the one year only 8” Fuchs rear alloy wheel option, and the fronts have recently been replaced with genuine 7” items, which when combined with the external sports package, give this Carrera its aggressive look. Additionally, the original dealer supplied plates are still on the car and whilst the radio has been upgraded to the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB, the car still comes with its original head unit.
The desirable electric sports seats along with rest of the interior was specified in the same pinstripe cloth as found in the Carrera Clubsport and looks superb, whilst the Guards Red exterior similarly presents in excellent condition. And the good news keeps coming, as this Carrera has been lovingly maintained, particularly in recent years with a no expense spared approach from its last two keepers with respected Porsche specialists, and all work is meticulously recorded on file.
As a result, this is one of the nicest examples we have seen in a while and feels absolutely sorted when behind the wheel.
OUR THOUGHTS
This is a sharp looking final year production Carrera, complete with a solid maintenance history that has covered just over 61,000 miles in 35 years. Combine this with a classic 80s colour combination, in a car that is in lovely condition throughout, and we feel this is an increasingly rare opportunity. The interior in particular is a highlight, for not only looking of its era, but genuinely enhancing the driving experience when sitting in the fabric sports seats. If you are looking for an extremely well sorted upper tier example, this car certainly qualifies for that accolade.
